My Misdiagnosis or Miraculous Healing + Ultrasound Vid

January 22nd, 2008

I guess we’ll never really know which it was, but at my appointment today, my doctor told us that there was absolutely no sign of the placenta previa I was diagnosed with a week ago! There is no way the placenta could have moved so quickly, so this was either a misdiagnosis or a miraculous healing by God! I’m still having 30-50 strong Braxton-Hicks contractions a day, but it’s not causing me to dilate, so it’s not dangerous. Thank you so much for your prayers and thoughts. I’m so glad to be healthy again! Unfortunately, the week of bedrest has taken a huge toll on my strength, and I can barely stand without getting tired! That should clear up soon though, as I ease back into a normal level of activity.

The baby is perfectly healthy. In just 4 short weeks, it will have a 50% survival rate if born at that point. It measured 11 ounces and about 10 inches long. It has plenty of amniotic fluid, all it’s organs and it’s female! Yep, my Intelligender test was completely wrong. I’m so excited, though, that Tru will have a little sister. I’m one of 3 girls, and I loved having sisters to talk to. I’m also really excited about only having to buy 1 more set of bedding instead of two and not having to buy more clothes, toys, and gear!

need a super small cute PC for $230?

January 20th, 2008

Would anyone like a brand new *super* small (9″ x 8″ x 2.5″) cute PC for $230? At this size it would fit just about anywhere. Need a PC for the kitchen? How about next to the TV in the entertainment center? I’ve priced out one of these PC’s and I want to build it and play with it. If any of you family or friends want one, I’ll order the parts and built it for you in exhcnage for getting to play with it.

My Trip to the Hospital

January 17th, 2008

I am exhausted. I spent the last 12 hours in the emergency room and in labor & delivery. I had some spotting 2 days ago that got about 10 times worse last night around 7 PM. We went to the ER, and after an ultrasound, I have been diagnosed with total placenta previa. This means that the placenta is completely covering my cervix and if I were to go into labor on my own, the placenta would detach before the baby comes out, cutting off all blood flow (and thus, oxygen) to the baby, killing it. Since it’s still early, it could still move up away from the cervix. However, if it doesn’t, I’ll have to have a planned C section at 36 weeks to make sure I don’t go into labor on my own. If I go into labor before then or start bleeding heavily, I’ll have to have an emergency C section right away.

I have been put on activity rest — I can walk and move around a little and I can drive and sit at my computer, but I can’t do any lifting at all or bending over or exercise of any type. I have to go straight to Labor & Delivery every time I have spotting equal to or heavier than this time or if I have contractions that could even possibly be labor. I had a full anatomy scan at the hospital. The baby is fine and growth is right on target. Sometimes PP decreases blood flow to the baby which can stunt development, but ours is right on track, to the day. I still have my normal OB anatomy scan next Tuesday where we’ll find out the sex. Then they’ll do another one at 28 weeks to see if the placenta has moved, and if it hasn’t, they’ll do another one at 36 weeks. If it still hasn’t moved by that point, they’ll do a C section at 36 weeks to take the baby. Please keep me and our baby in your thoughts and pray for us!

Miscellaneous Update

January 9th, 2008

It’s been quite a while since we’ve updated everybody about our lives! Christmas was hectic. Mike’s maternal grandfather passed away on Tru’s birthday this year (the 21st of December), so we had to cancel all our Christmas plans and go to Memphis to help Mike’s mother make funeral and legal arrangements. The funeral was a small, private affair. We had a nice Christmas with Mike’s mother and sister and also visited with Mike’s father and grandparents while we were there. Mike and I went out to a nice 5th anniversary dinner on the 28th while Bama and Jessica babysat. Tru had a blast. We were all glad to be home though, when we pulled into our driveway on New Year’s Eve!

I’m 4.5 months pregnant now (18 weeks), and I had my routine pregnancy bloodwork last week, including the initial screening for gestational diabetes, which I was diagnosed with with Tru. The recurrence rate for gestational diabetes is 85%, so I expect that I’ll fail the test again this time. My next doctor’s appointment is on January 22nd, and we should be able to update everyone with the baby’s gender at that point! We think that it may be a boy, but we’ll know definitively in 2 weeks.

We’ll be putting up pictures from Christmas soon, but in the meantime, you’ll have to make do with these portraits I took for our Christmas cards before Christmas. More updates, including video from Christmas, coming soon!
